Hi there,

I have a sprinter 2001 cdi. Unfortunately, i do not have any service instructions. Is there anybody who can tell me what the service interval is for front wheel bearings and what the bearing preload is.

Thanks in advance.

Farmerjack.

Hi Jack,

as far as I know there is no service provided for the front wheel bearings.
I run some Volkswagen LT (same axes as the Sprinter) for actually more than 400.000 kms without any problems. No servicing of bearings and no breakdowns.

What do you mean with bearing preload?

Hi Speedy,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I could not tell that it was`a sealed hub. But that makes it a lot easier.

Bearing pre-load is when you re-install a wheel bearing, you first tension it to a certain torque, then back it off, let's say , half a turn.

Anyway, i appreciate your help. Have a merry x-mas and a happy new year.

Hi Jack,

thanks for your explanation. One more word I know now ...

Though I'm a mechanic, I did not know about a certain torque at that type of bearing, I always adjusted it by feeling ... :(

So if you find out this torque please post it here because I like to use my torque-wrench also for that work (if I will ever have a bearing to adjust at this cars, but actually I doubt) :D

Also merry christmas and a happy new year to Australia from cold Germany!
